Job Summary:

Our chosen candidatewill perform structural analysis to verify product design meets structuralperformance requirements.


Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform structural modeling of rocket motor hardware components; conduct closed form solutions on hardware and solid propellant grains to structurally analyze joints and preliminary size components for pressure and thermal gradient boundary conditions. Materials will be a combination of isotropic, viscoelastic and composites materials. Thermal gradients and pressure distribution, as well as specified mechanical loads for these models will be specified by other analysis team members.
  • Coordinate with other team members for loads and an understanding of customer specified aerospace structural requirements.
  • Analyze static and dynamic loads, material nonlinearities and structural instabilities.
  • Using solid CAD models provided by other team members, generate FEA mesh in NX, ABAQUS, NASTRAN and/or ANSYS. The above loads and pressures will be used in these models. Perform static structural analysis and assess operating margins.
  • Generate and provide analysis reports and presentation materials to analysis team and customers documenting FEM and analysis results.
  • Report status and results of analysis tasks at design and program reviews.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting all analysis activities

Job Qualifications (Education/Skills/Experience):

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

This position requires a Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace or Engineering Mechanics). A Master's degree in a field of engineering that emphasizes structural analysis (majors listed above) is preferred. Related industry work experience is a plus.

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficiency in Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Visio. Working knowledge of solid modeling software (i.e. Solid Edge/SolidWorks) 3D model and 2D drawing creation. Knowledge of finite element analysis tools such as NASTRAN, ANSYS or ABAQUS is a plus.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to understand and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Strong mechanical aptitude and technical skills.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

The chosen candidate must be able to obtain BATF approval to work with our products. Ability to qualify for and if necessary obtain DoD security clearance.
