Job Specific Duties:

  • Assists individuals in developing natural supports and community living by learning multiple roles (friend, spouse, employee, student, etc.) so a greater sense of identity is established.
  • Responsible for delivering instruction to meet a recovery and learning-centered focus.

Customer Care:

  • Serves all people without regard to their background or history placing the person’s needs above all other considerations.
  • Models and practices recovery principles in all activities including hope, empowerment, responsibility, mutuality and self-determination.
  • Serves as a positive role model demonstrating professional and caring attitudes and behaviors toward co-workers, person’s served and community partners.
  • Courteously provides assistance in a concise, informative manner, keeping a positive, courteous tone and appropriate non-verbals.
  • Exhibits a non-judgmental approach, effective listening, good eye contact and positive interactions.
  • Ensures confidentiality of all HIPPA protected information.

APeer Support Specialist provides recovery training, outreach and support to adults receiving mental health or substance abuse services in the community. Works with Adults providing hope, encouragement, support, self determination, and connection to the community. Assists in implementing creating a recovery environment. Acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every person.

This position can be based from home and will require driving throughout the assigned region. 


  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Successful completion of Recovery Innovations Peer Employment Training Course.
  • Lived experience as a consumer of mental health services or substance use challenges required
  •  Familiarity and competency with computers
  • Valid driver's license, clean 36 month driving report and proof of auto insurance required
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel throughout the assigned region as needed
  • Will be required to safely operate a motor vehicle 
  • CPR Certification

Working Conditions:

Works in a standard office, behavioral health clinical areas and in the community with some exposure to hazardous situations. Some risk involved in the event of agitated consumers.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities, who are otherwise qualified, to perform the primary function. Schedule will include travel throughout geographic region.
