The IT Department at Arapahoe County is centralized, so we are an integral part of a vast array of "businesses", from the Sheriff's Office to Public Works to the Clerk & Recorder's Office. Arapahoe County's IT Department has a wide variety of systems and is continually bringing in new, cutting-edge technology to enhance the needs of its citizens and employees.

We are looking for the right individual to design, implement, and support Arapahoe County's LAN, WAN, VoIP and related network systems. The focus of this position centers around producing timely, high quality results in a fast-paced, Cisco centric environment.  Our desired candidate will have an analytical, inquiring and critical mind, creativity, strong problem-solving skills, a strong technical orientation, and must be a team player.

Network Engineer
The Network Engineer will perform a wide range of highly technical duties that include, but is not limited to, implementing, maintaining and supporting the Arapahoe County Government network for 7x24 availability, network security, network operating systems, voice systems, and various computing services such as enterprise network management, remote access and distributed application environments.
 
***The anticipated hiring range for the Network Engineer position is $2,426 to $3,512 bi-weekly depending on education and experience.
 
Senior Network Engineer
The Senior Network Engineer performs advanced administration, design, and support of the Arapahoe County data and voice network infrastructure utilizing a wide range of highly technical duties in the configuration, implementation, and operation of the network core, distribution, access, WAN and edge layer routers and switches, next generation firewall, wireless networks and related services. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining and supporting 7x24 availability for the Arapahoe County Government network, network security, network operating systems, voice systems, and various computing services such as enterprise network management, remote access and distributed application environments

***The anticipated hiring range for the Senior Network Engineer position is $2,952 to $4,422 bi-weekly depending on education and experience.

Duties

Network Engineer

·         Performs a variety of duties and functions associated with the overall administration of the data and voice network infrastructure which includes, but is not limited to, installation, configuration, testing, monitoring, administrative and troubleshooting tasks.

·         Configures and installs various network devices and services (e.g. routers, switches, wireless access points, VoIP phones, routing and switching protocols) that support and provide County services to internal and external customers.

·         Performs Tier 1 through Tier 3 technical support and troubleshooting of the data and voice network infrastructure to identify and resolve the root cause of failure or fault.

·         Travels to various County facilities or locations to work on, support, install, or replace data and voice network equipment.

·         Performs network systems maintenance and upgrades including operating system upgrades, patches, hot fixes and security configurations to minimize security vulnerabilities and reliability issues resulting from defective or outdated code.

·         Uses, configures and maintains network management platform and tools to monitor, track, and manage data and voice network infrastructure equipment.

·         Applies and enforces County security policies, standards, and controls to secure network infrastructure from unauthorized access or usage.

·         Monitors and tracks network performance, utilization, usage trending and capacity to ensure network availability and reliability.

·         Works within established configuration and change management policy to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.

·         Identifies opportunities for improving and/or increasing operational efficiency of the network infrastructure by working with vendors, researching, testing, evaluating, and recommending solutions.

·         Serves as a voice and data network technical resource for multi-functional IT project teams.

·         Creates and maintains procedural, process, administrative, and technical documentation.

·         Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emerging tools and network technologies.

·         Effectively collaborates and communicates with team mates, vendors, County staff, peer jurisdictions, and professional organizations.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Senior Network Engineer

·         Performs a variety of advanced technical duties and administrative functions to plan, design, configure, implement, maintain, and support the County's data and voice network infrastructure and associated network services in a manner that assures optimal performance, high availability, and secure.

·         Configures and installs various network devices and services (e.g. routers, switches, wireless access points, VoIP phones, routing and switching protocols) that support and provide County services to internal and external customers.

·         Performs architectural design and technical road mapping for the data and voice network infrastructure and associated services.

·         Performs Tier 1 through Tier 3 technical support and troubleshooting of the data and voice network infrastructure to identify and resolve the root cause of failure or fault.

·         Travels to various County facilities or locations to work on, support, install, or replace data and voice network equipment.

·         Performs network systems maintenance and upgrades including operating system upgrades, patches, hotfixes and security configurations to minimize security vulnerabilities and reliability issues resulting from defective or outdated code.

·         Uses, configures and maintains network management platform and tools to monitor, track, and manage data and voice network infrastructure equipment.

·         Applies and enforces County security policies, standards, and controls to secure network infrastructure from unauthorized access or usage.

·         Monitors and tracks network performance, utilization, usage trending and capacity to ensure network availability and reliability.

·         Works within established configuration and change management policy to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.

·         Identifies opportunities for improving and/or increasing operational efficiency of the network infrastructure by working with vendors, researching, testing, evaluating, and recommending solutions.

·         Exhibits technical leadership and mentors other less-experienced engineers.

·         Serves as a voice and data network technical resource for multi-functional IT project teams.

·         Creates and maintains procedural, process, administrative, and technical documentation.

·         Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emerging tools and network technologies.

·         Effectively collaborates and communicates with teammates, vendors, County staff, peer jurisdictions, and professional organizations.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills, Abilities and Competencies

The Network Engineer and Senior Network Engineer shall have:

·         Knowledge of state-of-the-art data and network technologies and the ability to incorporate new concepts into the planning and implementation processes for the data and voice environment.

·         Hands-on experience with network routing, switching, wireless, VoIP, firewalls and security primarily in a Cisco based environment.

·         General knowledge of the operating systems used in the LAN/WAN environment and ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems with the assistance of external support.

·         Ability to analyze, recommend purchase/lease of new systems equipment and software for the network environment.

·         Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with superiors, fellow workers, customers, and vendor representatives.

·         Strong oral and written communication skills. Written skills include the ability to write technical documentation for fellow team members. Oral network skills include ability to communicate network processes to a variety of audiences.

·         Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

·         Expertise at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.

·         Ability to continue personal development and education to remain informed of current industry development technologies. Must be able to learn, understand and apply new technologies.

Network Engineer

·         Requires a medium to high-level technical knowledge of, but not limited to, data and voice switching and routing equipment/operating systems, firewalls, content filtering, and monitoring software. This includes the ability to install, test, monitor, maintain and troubleshoot.

·         Requires working knowledge of:

o   TCP/IP, QoS, GRE, IPSec, SSL and SNMP network protocols, and;

o   OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP routing protocols, and;

o   VLAN 802.1q, VLAN Trunking Protocol, Spanning Tree Protocol 802.1d, and NetFlow traffic flow management, path management, aggregation and segmentation concepts and technologies.

·         Requires general knowledge of high-level utilities used to install, maintain and troubleshoot the network environment.

·         Requires the ability to develop a project plan for implementing new installations or upgrades. 

Senior Network Engineer

·         Requires advanced, high-level technical knowledge of, but not limited to, data and voice switching and routing equipment/operating systems, firewalls, content filtering, and monitoring software. This includes the ability to install, test, monitor, maintain and troubleshoot.

·         Requires advanced working knowledge of:

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:

·         Pre-employment testing includes an acceptable current motor vehicle check, background check, and polygraph exam.

·         Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.

Post-Employment Requirements:

·         Will also require post-hire fingerprinting, a CBI background check and successfully completing bi-annual Colorado Justice Information System training.

·         Position is deemed essential and incumbents must be available for winter storm emergencies.

·         Must be available to work on an on-call on a rotational basis requiring evenings, holidays and weekends.

·         Must be able to work nights and weekends as business needs dictate.

·         Work locations and facilities are subject to change based on business need.
