Job Description

Demonstrates competency in skills and knowledge pertinent to the care of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures

Prepares patient for exam, monitors during procedure and observes the patient.

Instructs the patient, post procedures, as directed by the physician.

Assists physician with technical aspects of procedure as directed.

Demonstrates competency in skills and knowledge pertinent to the care of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.

Anticipates supplies and equipment to be utilized during cases and assures that they are easily accessible.

Maintains adequate inventory of supplies.

Evaluates and recommends equipment as requested or needed.

Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians/RN with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN and within scope of practice.

Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and functions under stressful/emergency situations.

Interacts professionally with patient/family and treats patients/families with respect and dignity; and ensures patient confidentiality.

Contributes to the team concept and maintains a positive working relationship, both within the department and with other departments, assisting when a need is observed or requested, and offers constructive suggestions for improvements instead of complaints

Maintains endoscopy equipment and insures proper function.

Documentation reflects current nursing standards and supports policies and procedures.

Properly cleans and sterilizes reusable endoscopy equipment such as scopes.

Assists with physical inventory as requested.

Maintains safe environment for patients/visitors/coworkers/physicians.

Asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures. Isolation/universal precautions are understood and followed.

Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.

Completes annual educational requirements.

Maintains regulatory requirements.

Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.

Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.

Completes in services and returns in timely fashion.

Attends at least ____staff meetings; reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.

Ensures confidentiality of patient’s records.

Actively participates in the department’s continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
